*** Facebook Spatial Workstation for Mac (Intel & Apple Silicon), by Angelo FARINA (2023) *** ***** Step 1 ***** Install manually FFMPEG The FB360 Spatial Workstation folder must be manually copied to the following folder: ~/Library/Application Support/ So the result will be: ~/Library/Application Support/FB360 Spatial Workstation/ffmpeg-3.2 When this is done properly navigate tooth bin subfolder: ~/Library/Application Support/FB360 Spatial Workstation/ffmpeg-3.2/bin ***** Step 2 ***** Give permissions to FFMPEG executables and libraries When launching these aops (ffmpeg, ffplay, ffprobe, ffserver) for the first time, Mac OS will complain that they are from an unidentified developer, so you need to go to System Settings, Privacy and Security, and give permission to run. You must do this separately for each of the four executables. And as these executables attempt to load also the DYLIB files, you must enable also all of them, one after the other, when the Mac OS complains that it cannot load them. This must be done just once, then the apps and their libraries will remain usable forever. Please check that each of these 4 executables work properly by double clicking on it. A terminal window should open, and the text appearing should show that the app managed to load all the required libraries and terminates with no error. ***** Step 3 ***** Install GPAC 0.8.1 The installer also requires to be authorised with System Settings, Privacy and Security ***** STEP 4 ***** Install Python 2.7 This should install smoothly without problems, as it is correctly signed. ***** STEP 5 ***** Install the FB Spatial Workstation v. 3.3.3 Launch the installer named FB_Spatial_Workstation_333_no_FFMPEG.pkg Complete the setup giving password and permissions. Verify that the setup completes with no errors. ***** STEP 6 ***** Run FB360 Encoder In the Settings/preferences/dependencies, set: Python 2.7 path to: '/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/bin/python2.7' Set MP4Box path to: '/Applications/GPAC.app/Contents/MacOS/MP4Box' Please note that navigating to the second one is tricky, when you reach the GPAC.app you should right-click, open in Finder, then right click again on the app, "show package contents", navigate down to MP4Box, and drag it to the Open window which is still there in the back. Alternatively, you can copy the file named FB360 Encoder.properties, which is provided inside this ZIP archive, to ~/Library/Application Support/FB360 Spatial Workstation/ **** Final Remarks ***** With this setup the FB Spatial Workstation works completely, including the VST3 plugins, the Encoder and the Video Player. Everything was tested on a MacBook Pro M1-Max with Mac OS Ventura 13.2, using the latest Intel-only version of Plogue Bidule (v. 0.9767), which is included in this container as it is not easy to find it on the Plogue web site. Of course you need a Bidule license file for using it! Please note that the VST3 plugins are Intel-only, so, on Apple Silicon machines, they can be accessed only from host programs also running in Intel mode through Rosetta 2. A native M1 host will not work, such as the latest version of Reaper or Bidule.
