*** Audacity 2.3.3 with Audition and ASIO support *** released on 10 February 2020 1) Install the standard Audacity 2.3.3 program, launching audacity-win-2.3.3.exe 2) Setup properly Audacity, setting the standard sampling frequency to 48 kHz, the Export Mode to multichannel (disabling the crap default Downmix to Stereo option), installing additional libraries and plugins, etc. 3) Unzip the Audacity-2.3.3-asio.zip file to a temporary folder. 4) Copy all the files and folders in the same folder where the official Audacity 2.3.3 was installed (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Audacity), overwriting the existing files with the same name. At this point launching audacity.exe should show the ASIO option, if any ASIO device driver is installed (install ASIO4ALL if you do not have a sound card already equipped with ASIO driver). The version of Aurora included is minimal, containing just three modules: - Generate / Aurora Sine Sweep Generator - Analyze / Aurora Acoustical Parameters - Tools / Aurora Convolver The other Aurora modules will be added in the next future. Legal disclaimer: Till now Audacity had never been released pre-compiled with ASIO support enabled for complying with GPL license, which requires that the source code is made available for all the components of a pre-compiled executable released under the GPL license. The source code for the ASIO SDK was not freely available on the Internet until a short time ago. But nowadays the source code of the SDK is available without any registration here: http://www.steinberg.net/sdk_downloads/ASIOSDK2.3.2.zip So I think it is nowadays fully legitim to release Audacity precompiled with ASIO support. I followed the compiling instructions which are also freely available online, together with the source code for Audacity and WXwidget modules, from this web site: https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Building_On_Windows As I provided the source code for everything thanks to the two links above, I think that I did nothing wrong.
